Once a week, I make slow cooker pinto beans.

EASY slow cooker pinto beans

I use pinto beans in several recipes, and my children love bean burritos.

This easy slow cooker recipe is a no brainer, but it’s very flavorful.

Ingredients

I bag of pinto beans
7.5 c of water
1 T red pepper
3 T cumin (we love cumin, so I use it generously)
1/2 chopped onion (we love onion, so I use a whole large one)
2T garlic powder
1 ham hock or bone

Instructions

Soak dry pinto beans overnight in water
Rinse and place in slow cooker
Add 7.5 cups of water
Add ham hock
Add remaining indgredients
Cook on High 4 hours or low 6-8
Remove ham hock
Serve

Notes

I usually freeze half of the beans and save for a later recipe.

My son was asking us about bean recipes awhile back. They are just so filling and good. A great side or main dish especially during colder days. It’s great to just have a bowl of warm beans that have been simmering all day.

I always add a half a can of beer to my pinto beans, and usually a can of rotel to spice them up because I don’t like onions. It never crossed my mind to use cumin. Gotta try that! Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting this. I found your sight from E.H.M. http://www.jessicaweible.com. I have been wanting to make beans for over 5 years now and haven’t been able to find one like my mom made. Your recipe is almost identical to hers….she didn’t use cumin but other then that it is spot on to hers. I just wasn’t sure how to get them to taste like hers. With these instructions I now know how to do it.
