Homemade refried beans are so much tastier than the dry ones you buy in the can. Those can beans look like dog food to me.
UGH!
I make this homemade refried beans recipe at least once per week in my slow cooker. We either eat them as a side dish, serve them with tacos or nachos, or simply eat them as bean and cheese burritos for lunch.
I usually make 2 lbs and freeze half of them for another meal.
Homemade Refried Beans Recipe in the Slow Cooker!
I usually double the recipe and freeze the other half.
Ingredients
1 lb. dry pinto beans
Onion powder to taste
Garlic powder to taste
Chili powder to taste
Salt to taste
Cumin (I use a lot)
Beef bouillon (4 cubes)
Instructions
Soak beans in water overnight(sometimes I don't even soak them and they turn out fine)
Drain beans
Place beans in crock pot and submerge in water at least an inch and half over beans
Put all spices and beef bouillon cubes and cook on low about 8 hours
Drain beans and save about 2 cups of bean juice
Use electric mixer to mash beans and add a little bit of water to make creamy.
You might need to add salt or other spices at this time.
